Geckos are lizards, which are members of the reptile family. Reptiles are cold-blooded animals that lay eggs. There are more 1,000 different species, or kinds, of geckos. They are divided into two main groups- geckos with eyelids that can blink like people, and geckos without eyelids that cannot blink. Geckos are usually very small, shorter than one foot long.
That’s shorter than a ruler! Geckos have pads on their toes, and these pads have tiny hairs on them that help them grab smooth surfaces and climb. Geckos are really good climbers and can often be seen on the side of buildings and surfaces. Geckos have long tails that help them balance as they climb.
